Covid-19 - Latest News. West Hill Parish Council Help Scheme & Letter to residents

West Hill Parish Council Help School

CORONAVIRUS – COVID19

Letter to Residents - The following letter will be distributed to all houses in West Hill

We are writing to you to inform you about the steps the Council are taking to help the West Hill community during this period.

We know many of you are worried about yourself and your neighbours.  Many of you have health concerns, business & financial worries. Fortunately many people can rely on the support of friends and family and we encourage you to do this where possible. However, others may need help now or in the coming weeks.

The Council are liaising with many groups and organisations and will be the focal point for communication.  This will be the first of a series of letters.

Our aim is to enable help to reach those people that need it.  Our main focus will be to support the vulnerable in the village – whatever their age. We have received many offers of help (thankyou!) and have already been contacted for help.

Many clubs and group meetings have been cancelled for the coming months.  We’d encourage you to stay in contact - just a quick phone call to friends could make all the difference.

We are already liaising with the Royal British Legion, McColls, Coleridge Medical Centre, Ottery Town Council, Ottery Help Scheme etc.

WHAT WE WILL DO

  • Help the West Hill community to help each other
  • Co-ordinate volunteers
  • Signpost the help available from volunteers and organisations

WE NEED YOUR HELP

  • Please let us know what help you need.    We’re already working on general support activities that you may need such as help with shopping and collecting prescriptions.  Every household will have different needs and we need to know what support you need.

  • Could you be the contact point for your road, lane, etc?  We want to set up a network of co-ordinators across the village.  This will help us to get messages quickly to/from you. We’re not asking you to provide support but to be willing to contact your neighbours, to deliver newsletters and to flag up any concerns.

  • Could you volunteer to help?  Please contact us with your name, address, telephone number, email address, and what help you can offer. It would be helpful to know whether you have a recent DBS check (it’s not essential as there will be a range of things to do). Over the coming days we’ll have a better idea of what support the West Hill community needs and what we’ll be asking volunteers to help with.
