Exciting news - BROADBAND UPDATE
Over recent months West Hill Parish Council have been in discussions with Jurassic Fibre. Cllr Jess Bailey and I today met with Jurassic Fibre to talk about their project to upgrade areas of East Devon to full fibre to the premises (FTTP) Ultrafast broadband.
We are delighted to advise that West Hill is in Phase 2 of the very exciting Jurassic Fibre roll out.
As you may be aware from media coverage Phase1 of the Jurassic Fibre project from Sowton to Exmouth is divided into 3 stages.
The digging for Phase 1 (section 1) has already started and Jurassic Fibre have scheduled user trials for the first section of Phase 1 towards the end of November. Trials normally last around 3 months.
Of course we asked that West Hill (and Aylesbeare) could be as early in the Phase 2 as is humanly possible!
Jurassic Fibre have asked if Jess and I could be the local community contacts for Aylesbeare and West Hill and we have agreed as we are keen to liaise closely with them and support this very positive project.
For far too long East Devon have been the poor relations when it comes to Broadband provision!
We pushed for a date for when works may actually start in West Hill (and Aylesbeare), but they could not give us one yet, although indicated that it would be next year.
It was a positive meeting but there is (quite) a long road ahead.
We keep our fingers crossed that Phase 1 progresses smoothly and swiftly and that West Hill (and Aylesbeare) get the improved broadband we urgently need.
We will contact residents who have registered their interest in the WHPC Broadband Project in due course.
