Could you be a Community First Responder for West Hill?

Could you be a Volunteer Community First Responder?

In Spring 2022 three West Hill residents responded to the Parish Council’s call for volunteer Community First Responders.

Following the successful completion of their training West Hill and Ottery St Mary now has an operational Community First Responder team.

They’ve already been on call for 250+ hours.

Thank you Amanda, Michaela + Della

Can you help?

The South Western Ambulance NHS Foundation Trust (SWAST) is seeking additional volunteers to join the West Hill + Ottery St Mary Community First Responders team.

The Community First Responder scheme is made up of a group of trained volunteers who within the community in which they live or work attend emergency calls on behalf of South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust to provide patient care, including basic life support, until the arrival of an emergency ambulance.

This role is highly rewarding and offers opportunities to meet new people and learn valuable lifesaving skills through the training provided by SWAST.

Further information on the scheme is available on the South West Ambulance Service Trust website  www.swast.nhs.uk.

Application forms will be available on the NHS jobs website from Monday 25th July 2022 until Thursday 4th August 2022.  Key points to note: Applicants must have

  • full driving licence and access to a car
  • be able to attend 5 training sessions in Barnstaple during September 2022: Saturday 10th, Sunday 11th, Saturday 17th, Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th

There will be further recruitment campaigns in 2023.
